I give this very sweet cooking manga...an 85/100!
I have a lot of good memories with this manga. I remember I got the first three volumes for Christmas one year, and after that, I bought the entire series! Recently, omnibus editions combining several volumes into one got released, but I already have all ten volumes from when Borders was still alive, and I just finished re-reading it for the first time in years. I thought I'd come to hate it, but surprisingly...it's a lot better than I remember. It has some problems, but they didn't kill my enjoyment of the manga, and there's a lot that it does differently from several other shoujo manga, and honestly, Kitchen Princess really stands out if more people gave it a chance.
The story is about a young girl named Kazami Najika, who dreams of becoming a chef like her late parents. They died in an accident, and she was really upset. She herself almost died once, but a boy saved her and cheered her up with some flan. The only thing he left behind was a spoon with the emblem for a school called Seika Academy. Najika decided to try finding him by going to this special school. But life in the city isn't all it's cracked up to be, and she's shunned by almost everyone in the school except for two boys, Daichi and Sora, who are the director's sons. Will Najika both fulfill her dream and find her Flan Prince? Because school life hasn't exactly been kind to her, and she's going to need to do a lot in order to survive.
