12 Moments in Anime 2020, #2: Covid-19

So...in December 2019, a new disease broke out in China, and eventually to the entire world. In March, it became a global pandemic, with so many people either dying or getting severely sick from it. Entire cities went into complete lockdown to prevent the spread. People were mandated to wear masks, distance themselves from others, and wash their hands every chance they got. As of now, a vaccine has finally been made, so for all we know, the end of the pandemic may be in sight. But who knows at this point? From a pop culture perspective, everything from most anime to video games were delayed, and some events, like conventions and concerts, were outright cancelled or postponed until next year, or even the year after, to ensure the safety of both workers and the general public. Anime dubbing companies, from the engineers to the voice actors who had their own recording set-ups, were made to work from home to ensure their safety.

The pandemic has changed a lot of things this year, and its effects on the world are pretty significant. But like all things, it has to come to an end at some point. We survived the Spanish Influenza during the early 1910s, the swine flu pandemic in 2009, and others before history, so who's to say we can't get through this as well? No matter what happens, all we can do is keep moving on, and there may be a light at the end of the tunnel yet.

Now, you're probably wondering why this is moment number two and not number one. Seeing as these moments are more personal to me than objective, I have something special for number one. You'll see.

Moment #2: The Covid-19 pandemic and its effects on the entertainment industry.
